I've migrated from an 08 MacPro, running 10.6.8 with 6 Gb of RAM onto a MacMini i7 running 10.8.3 with 8GB of RAM. Benchmark, the processor is supposed to be about 2.5 times faster than the MacPro. Obviously I have more and faster RAM.

Adobe Premiere Elements 9 is so laggy. Even on a 3Ghz Quad Core, 2x nVIDIA 260gtx's, and high speed ram. I have no idea how people on slow computers deal with it. Could you make the software more lightweight? This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Premiere Elements: Make Premiere Elements faster.
I'm running not only the same CS6 software, but the same CS6 Premiere project that has been shortened. All the material is on the exact same drives (all Seagate BackupPlus USB 3.0 drives), through the same external hub. It was only USB 2.0 on the MacPro, a few of the drives, the ones with the most content, are coming in on USB 3.0 to the Mini. Exporting what was an hour long project to export on the MacPro has turned into a 6 hour ordeal, slowly creeping up one percent every few minutes. At 82%, its too far along to quit and yet its too slow to be functional in the long term. But it gives me time to write on a different computer.

- The Computer-Machine Analogy. It should be no surprise that Premiere Pro's performance depends on your computer hardware: CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, etc. Together, these are literally the machinery that make Premiere Pro and every other application run.
- 16 GB of RAM for HD media. 32 GB for 4K media or higher. 2 GB of GPU VRAM. For a list of recommended graphic cards, see Recommended graphics cards for Adobe Premiere Pro. 4 GB of GPU VRAM. For a list of recommended graphic cards, see Recommended graphics cards for Adobe Premiere.
- If you’re running any other software on your computer while you edit, this will use up RAM on your computer. In Premiere Pro, you can tell your computer how much of your RAM you want to use for other applications and also how much you want to reserve for Adobe video apps. To do this, go to Preferences Memory.
- Rendering, editing video, applying effects, and running applications all rely on RAM for smooth operation. For rendering, the computer will often use VRAM (video random access memory) from the GPU (graphics processing unit) first, but when space runs out in VRAM, the system will start using the main computer RAM to continue running the process.
On this Mini, I have experienced drives going to sleep, even though I have the instructions in Energy Saver set to never go to sleep. I even have installed 'KeepDriveSpinning' yet I still hear the drives going to sleep and occasionally waking up. I don't know why, or how. Maybe that is the problem. I've had lots of spinning beachballs. I've relaunched the Finder several times, each time seems to add an additional percent to the total and shortens the ETA. Problem is the ETA has been less than an hour for over 3 hours.

No other programs are running. Internet is off. On the Mac Pro, I used to have several big programs running. It would only have problems when I did an export

But under controlled conditions, the only two things I can think of that are different are the computer; the Mac Mini supposedly being better; and the OS on that computer, 10.8 vs 10.6
I've found the https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3521 article. I'll try to figure out those tests afterI get this render done, sometime in the wee hours of the morning at this rate.
